A calm corner isn't a punishment chair with cushions. But that's what most of them quietly become, usually within a fortnight, and almost always for the same reason.

The Calm Corner Kit is the twelve paths laid out for group settings — classrooms, clinics, therapy rooms, anywhere you work with more than one child.

The rule that decides everything.
Nobody is ever sent there. The moment the corner becomes a consequence, it's finished — children will refuse it, associate the paths with being in trouble, and you'll have burned the tool for the whole room. They go when they choose. They come back when they choose. There's a sign for the wall that says it in words a child can read.

Set up so they'll actually use it.
Low, soft, out of the sightline, and not by the door. Two or three paths at a time rather than all twelve. Small decisions that determine whether children use the space before a crisis instead of during one.

Paths sized for the room.
Six large-format posters, big enough to trace standing up and read from across a classroom — each marked for how it's meant to be used: whole class, alone in the corner, or after an incident. Because a path that needs counting is hard to run with twenty children breathing at different speeds.

Introduce it without it becoming an event.
A four-step way to bring it to a group when everyone is calm — including what to say it isn't, which children test immediately.

Continuity with home.
A visiting card that goes home with the path they picked, so what they learn with you doesn't stop at the door.

Evidence, if you're asked for it.
Observation sheets and four things worth measuring — none of them "calm." Including why usage going up in the first weeks is a good sign, and why reporting at week two will make it look like it failed.

A licence in plain words.
One educator, one setting, your whole class or caseload however many that is. Print unlimited copies, laminate them, display them, send the visiting card home, share the pacer link with families. What you can and can't do, written in sentences rather than legal text.

It's a self-regulation tool, not a behaviour system and not a trauma intervention. It works best as one visible, reliable thing in a room that's already predictable and warm — and it won't compensate for one that isn't.
